One of my biggest discoveries of the 2013 Grammys was Ed Sheeran, who performed with Sir Elton John. I adore the ability of singer/songwriters to pack a powerful, emotional story in the relatively small space of a song. Sheeran is a talented storyteller, though he tends to weave stories that are dark and tragic.

Today I am ironing out some kinks in the storyline of my current work-in-progress which features a hero and heroine who have dark, tragic events in their pasts that have shaped their lives and define their relationship. So making Ed Sheeran’s + the soundtrack today just seemed natural.
I often think of my life having a soundtrack. Do you? If so, what’s playing on your soundtrack today, and why?

He’s pretty good. I’ll have to check him out more.
I listen to Adele a lot because her slow songs are very melancholy. I recently bought the Emeli Sande’ CD even thought it’s been out since last summer. I really like the messages in some of her songs. I guess the Brits are taking over. 🙂

I’m also a huge fan of Adele and I still listen to Amy Winehouse ‘s Back to Black CD. Definitely into Brit pop. I haven’t heard Emeli. I’ll have to check her out.
Nothing is playing on my soundtrack today. I’m operating in silence today and listening for inner guidance. Tomorrow I’ll blast some tunes.
I have to check him out, but I noticed Hunter Hayes & Lumineers and Jack White and Alabama Shakes. I love Emeli Sande, too. Usually, my soundtrack is the Pandora-IHeart Radio mix. I like Chrisette Michelle, Conya Doss, Goapele & Amel Larrieux. I also discovered James Morrison. Honestly, it depends on the mood of the day. Sometimes, I feel a jazzy itch for Esperanza Spalding & Lady Day.
@Demetria it depends on what I’m working on. I noticed that I often require complete silence or non-vocal jazz or classical when I’m working on non-fiction writing for school or business. When I’m engaged in creative writing I can crank up my productivity and guide my mood according to the music I’m playing.
@Alexandra We have similar musical tastes. I also love Goapele, Chrisette Michele, Amel Larrieux (wish she would do more!), and Esperanza Spalding. I also really like Alabama Shakes and plan to listen to more of them, Hunter Hayes, and the Lumineers. I first discovered Jack White during his duet of with Alicia Keys for the Quantum of Solace theme song. After his Grammy performance, I plan to listen to more of Jack White’s music, too.
