Maya sipped her mimosa, her eyes trailing down Liam’s broad shirtless chest. Her gaze caressed the hard muscles, starting with his delts, then trailed the light dusting of hair that beckoned her imagination to dip below the strings tied at the waist of his pajama pants.

He cleared his throat. “Eyes up here, lady. Sometimes, I swear, you treat me like a piece of meat.” A playful grin kissed his mouth.

“I lose my powers of subtlety after the third mimosa, so really, you only have yourself to blame.”

Liam laughed. He put his glass down and pulled her onto his lap, trailing kisses down her neck. “Good, then my nefarious plan to get you tanked and make love to you all afternoon is working.”

“Guess it is.” She took another sip then put her glass down next to his. “But you didn’t need alcohol for that. All you had to do was ask.”

Maya unbuttoned the shirt she was wearing and left it hanging open as she leaned in and captured his mouth in a kiss. His warm, eager mouth took hers. Jolts of electricity skittered along the surface of her skin. She wanted him. More than she’d ever wanted anyone.

He wanted to make love to her.

That’s what he said. Not shagging. Not having sex. Nor any of a number of crude American or British references he could have used. It was just a figure of speech. Not a promise. Nor an outpouring of emotions. Just an expression. She concentrated on the growing ache between her thighs and his swelling erection pressed against her sex.

Concentrate on the physical. Don’t go reading between the lines, seeing stuff that isn’t there.

She ground her hips against him and he moaned, the sound vibrating in her throat. No matter what he’d uttered inadvertently, no matter what else she might be feeling, this was simply a summer of hot sex and good company. Nothing more.

She tried to push the voice from her head. The one that reminded her that the summer was winding down. Soon enough, this would come to an end.
