Word of mouth is the most powerful marketing tool an author can have. Just think…how many times have you purchased a book because someone you follow on social media touted the book or shared a photo of it? Personally, I pick up a book or add one to my TBR at least once a week based on the recommendation of someone I follow on social media. In 2024 and beyond, I’ll be doing a lot more indie publishing. So I will need the help of loyal, supportive, enthusiastic readers more than ever. That’s why I’m forming the Reese Ryan Street Team—launching in January 2024.
What is a Street Team?
A street team is a group of enthusiastic readers who love a particular author’s work and help the author spread the word about new, upcoming, or recent book releases or events.
What Do Street Team Members Do?
They work closely with the author to get the word out about the author’s work. Street team members commit to helping an author whose work they love in some of the following ways:
- Read and review advance copies of books
- Share posts about the author’s books on social media
- Post photos of the author’s books on social media
- Recommend the author’s books to fellow readers
- Recommend the author’s books to book clubs
- Request that the local library order the author’s books
- Add author’s books to relevant Goodreads lists
- Etc.
Who Can Join the Reese Ryan Street Team?
Each author has their own requirements for joining their street teams. And since team members gain access to sensitive information and early copies of an author’s work, there are legitimate reasons to be wary about who is given that level of access. However, here are my current parameters for membership:
- Do you enjoy reading my books?
- Have you been a ride-or-die reader since the Pleasure Cove or Bourbon Brothers series?
- Did you discover my books recently, and you’ve been spreading the word ever since?
- Do you regularly share my book announcements and social media posts?
If any of the above describes you, you’re the perfect candidate for the Reese Ryan Street Team launching in January 2024! In fact, you’re practically an unofficial member of the team.

There are no requirements based on the number of your social media platforms or the size of your social media following. What’s most important is that:
- You enjoy reading my books
- You’re willing to review them in a timely fashion
- You’re eager to tell other readers about my books
- You’re willing to share book promo posts on social media
- You’ll keep sneak peeks, first looks, and beta reads confidential
The size of your following isn’t nearly as important as your enthusiasm and willingness to share what you enjoy about my books and characters.
