Over the past few months I’ve had the opportunity to discover authors, poets, musicians and their work that was either new to me, or that I’m rediscovering. It’s been wonderful to delve into each new work and learn about its creator.
So from time to time I’ll post here on the blog on Fridays to share pieces that I’m currently obsessed with. To kick it off I’m sharing a poem that I adore, “May I Feel Said He” by E.E. Cummings. The poem is sensual, playful and rhythmic. And, of course, it doesn’t hurt that Tom Hiddleston is reading it.
Here is the poem:
may i feel said he
by e e cummings
may i feel said he
(i’ll squeal said she
just once said he)
it’s fun said she
(may i touch said he
how much said she
a lot said he)
why not said she
(let’s go said he
not too far said she
what’s too far said he
where you are said she)
may i stay said he
(which way said she
like this said he
if you kiss said she
may i move said he
is it love said she)
if you’re willing said he
(but you’re killing said she
but it’s life said he
but your wife said she
now said he)
ow said she
(tiptop said he
don’t stop said she
oh no said he)
go slow said she
(cccome?said he
ummm said she)
you’re divine!said he
(you are Mine said she)
Here is Tom Hiddleston reciting it.
Lovely, no?
Are you a fan of E.E. Cummings? If so, what is your favorite poem of his?

Had never heard of this before, Reese – but after listening to Tom’s recitation…I’m a fan! LOL! Thanks for sharing!

I’ve never been a big poetry reader, but I specifically avoided E.E. Cummings because of his signature style. However, in reading his work, I’ve come to appreciate the brilliance of his brevity. He offers a great lesson in saying a lot with only a few words.
