Baby Be Mine – Chapter Eight

“You’re shitting me.” A sense of dread filled her.

He groaned. “I wouldn’t joke about this.”

She sighed, pulling the cover around herself. Finally, they’d kissed, made love. Mitch had exceeded her schoolgirl fantasies and a few of her adult ones. He’d taken her to unexpected heights, making love to her with a tenderness that deeply moved her and a passion that made her feel as if she were crawling out of her skin with mind-blowing bliss.

A condom malfunction definitely wasn’t part of her plan.

“How could this happen?”

He rolled onto his back beside her, his forearm thrown across his forehead. He shrugged. “I don’t know.”

“How old was that thing?” She turned on her side and propped her head on her fist.

“Not sure.” He shrugged. “It was my emergency wallet condom. Didn’t expect to be using one tonight.”

“One condom?” She raised an eyebrow, her hands gliding over the feathery hair that trailed down his chest. “We’ll be needing a lot more than that.”

“You’re kidding, right? This is a sign. We shouldn’t have done this.”

He was Naomi Johnston’s son, all right. Monique loved the woman, but Ms. Naomi had never met an old folk remedy or old wives’ tale that she didn’t love.

Despite the uneasiness that made her stomach flip, she was determined not to let the mishap ruin their evening.

“You’re being silly,” she cooed, dragging her thumb along his lower lip. “Besides, there’s nothing we can do about it now. So don’t let it ruin our evening.”

She pressed her mouth to his, then peppered his neck and chest with light kisses.

He ran his fingers through her hair. The messy bun she’d worn to the party had loosened when they’d made love. “As much as I’d like to keep this going, I only had the one. Purposely didn’t re-up my supply. I knew I’d see you tonight. Didn’t want to be tempted.”

She grinned. “And how’d that work out?”

“Monique, I’m serious. That was an accident. We’re not tempting fate by doing this without protection.”

“Lucky for you I’m a modern girl.” She kissed him again, then reached into the drawer beside her bed and produced an unopened box. “No more excuses.”

His stern expression dissolved into a grin that made him even more handsome against the moonlight. “If I’m gonna take an ass-whipping from your brother, might as well really earn it.”
